Cave Grub

#Overview

The Cave Grub is the tier-2 pest of Compost Caves, and the only one, so every tier-2 spawn in the caves is a grub. Tier-2 pests trickle in from the first minute, peak around 5:00 and stop spawning at 12:00 on Normal (13:00 on Easy). Between 1:00 and 4:59 the minute's elite is a Cave Grub if Tibo is in the caves.

It crawls straight at Tibo at speed 32 and hurts only on contact, for 6 base damage. With 24 base HP it is the toughest tier-2 pest that simply chases, ahead of the Potato Beetle and Tomato Leech (20 each). At tier 2 only the Garden Slug (34) and the charging Bowling Ball (28) have more. It is also the slowest of those chasers, and its mass of 0.2 trims knockback by 20%. A kill gives 2 XP and a 5% chance of a coin.

#Tips

• Grubs take about three times as much damage to kill as the Compost Maggots that make up the caves' tier-1 spawns. When the mix shifts towards grubs around 5:00, weapons that were one-shotting maggots may stop keeping up.
• At speed 32 they are about half as fast as Tibo, so walking away while your weapons work is usually safe.
