Rotten Spud

Rotten Spud is a passive upgrade in tibo.dog. In-game description: “+10% curse per level: stronger, faster, more enemies, but more XP and gold.”

Overview

Rotten Spud is a trade-off passive. Each level adds 0.1 curse, up to 0.5 at level 5. Curse makes the run harder and more rewarding at the same time: in-game, “Curse makes enemies tougher, faster and more numerous, and raises XP and gold.”

It is the catalyst for Landmine Harvest (from Tater Mines) and Moon Cleaver (from Mezzaluna). At level 5 it also evolves Boom Spud into Kaboom Spud.

How it works

With Rotten Spud as the only curse source, the effects at level 1 and level 5 are (formulas on Curse):

Effect Formula Level 1 Level 5
Pest, elite and boss HP × (1 + curse) ×1.1 ×1.5
Pest speed × (1 + 0.3 × curse) ×1.03 ×1.15
Enemy crowd and spawn rate × (1 + curse) ×1.1 ×1.5
XP gain and gold gain × (1 + 0.5 × curse) ×1.05 ×1.25

The ordinary crowd ceiling is capped at 500 on Easy/Normal, 650 on Hard and 800 on Nightmare. Hard and Nightmare also have a late ceiling floor, so curse is not the only way to raise the crowd.

Rotten Spud raises only the curse stat. It does not count as a curse taken, so unlike a Moldy Shrine it adds no extra elites or bosses (see Curse).

Tips

  • A bigger crowd should also mean more kills and so more XP gems, on top of the higher XP multiplier. Whether that is worth tougher pests depends on how comfortably your build clears.
  • Kaboom Spud's explosions hit for half the dead enemy's max HP (“25% of kills explode, hitting nearby enemies for half the dead enemy's max HP.”). Curse raises enemy max HP, so it also makes those explosions stronger.
  • Moon Cleaver hits harder the more HP Tibo is missing, which suits a riskier, cursed run.

Levels

1 0.1
2 0.2
3 0.3
4 0.4

Totals are added to Tibo's stat sum. How each stat turns into a multiplier (caps and diminishing returns) is on Stats.
