Biome survival guide
What each biome throws at you and how to play it. Every tip below is the same text as on that biome's page, which also has the numbers and sources.
Chip Canyons
- With no hazard, this is a comfortable place to fight. The danger is dashes: Sand Crabs, Field Crows and Grease Fiends all charge. A charger in range stops for half a second (0.6 seconds from 20:00 in Standard) with its direction locked, then dashes in a straight line, so step sideways when one stops.[1]
- Kill Harvest Mice where your area weapons can catch the three rats they leave behind.
- The extra Fry Carts make Chip Canyons a good place to shop once you have gold.
Coin Laundromat
- Use the 20 s of Loose Change to sweep up coins: walk through dropped gold, or save a magnet pickup for it, before the timer runs out.
- Stay and fight inside the laundromat when you want gold. Every coin dropped there is worth 40% more than in a ×1 biome.
- The microwaves make this the place to copy a key item. Remember that each copy melts another item of the same rarity.
- From about 9:00 to 18:00 Ice Imps dominate the spawns, so expect a lot of incoming fire here.
Compost Caves
- The caves pay well in both gold and XP, and the late pests (Moles and Mud Golems) are slow tanks. If you can handle their HP, this is a good place to spend the middle and late game.
- Moldy Shrines are common here. Each one trades +0.1 curse for a pile of gold, and curse brings extra elites and bosses, so take them when your build can handle the extra pressure (see Curse).
- The vents are small. Keep track of them when kiting a crowd, because dodge will not save you while you stand in one.
Crop Circle
- Crop Circle is the best place in the game to earn XP: the highest XP multiplier and no hazard. Its many Spud Shrines add stat picks on top.
- Crop Patches are everywhere here. Break them for coins and the chance of a 30 HP snack when you need healing.
- For the saucer, fast-hitting weapons are what count: every hit is a coin flip for gold, not every point of damage. It escapes after 20 s, so chase it straight away.
- Spittlebugs can show up from the first minute here. Expect some ranged fire earlier than in the climate biomes.
Frozen-Fries Tundra
- On frost Tibo walks at about 43 units per second at base speed. That is slower than Field Rats (50) and only a little faster than Field Crows (40) between charges, so frost patches are bad places to be caught by tier 3 pests.
- The frost is mild compared with Mash Swamp, and the tundra's XP bonus makes it a good place to level, especially from about 9:00 to 18:00 when Ice Imps (7 XP each) make up a large share of spawns.
- Ice Imps fire a three-shot fan. Keep moving sideways to them rather than backing away in a straight line.
Fry-Oil Desert
- Fight next to the pools, not in them. The burn ticks every frame Tibo is inside, and neither dodge nor a dash protects him.
- Sizzle Imps make up a large share of spawns from about 6:00 to 11:00. They slow down and explode next to Tibo, so keep moving instead of letting them reach you while you are cornered against a pool.
- With crates and carts common and gold at ×1.25, this is a good place to farm gold mid-run. Pull fights to the desert side of a border to get the multiplier.
Fry Palace Drive-Thru
- The gulls only cross the screen once and do not turn, so you can step out of their band instead of fighting them. Area weapons can turn the flock into a burst of XP gems, though.
- The oil patches are small and sparse (at most two per chunk), so they are easy to keep away from.
- This is the best landmark for shopping and item copying, with Fry Carts and Microwaves making up nearly half of its points of interest.
Gutterball Lanes
- On a patch Tibo walks at about 37 units per second at base speed, slower than Crumb Ants (46) and Field Rats (50). Avoid being caught on one by a crowd of them.
- A charger that gets within dash range stops for half a second (0.6 seconds from 20:00 in Standard) with its direction locked, then dashes in a straight line.[1] When a Bowling Ball stops, step sideways out of its line rather than running straight away, especially on a slow patch.
- With crates making up 41% of the points of interest, the lanes are a good place to spend gold on items.
Ketchup Bog
- The puddles are dense (up to four per chunk), so plan your kiting route around them. They do not slow Tibo, so you can cross one quickly if you need to.
- From about 9:00 to 18:00 much of the crowd shoots. Keep moving across their line of fire rather than standing still to fight.
- For gold, this is the best climate biome. Its crates, nests and lairs also make it a good place to find chests.
Mash Swamp
- At base speed Tibo walks at 62 units per second, or about 34 in the mash. That is still faster than the swamp's own walkers (22–30 base speed), but much slower than pests coming in from neighbouring biomes, such as Field Rats (50). Elite speed bonuses and overtime also close the gap.
- Bog Toads dash at 170 regardless of terrain. Avoid standing still in a mash patch when one is lining up.
- Use the dash to cross a patch. It covers the same 48 units in or out of the mash.
Peel Forest
- The brambles are small and do little damage, so they matter mostly when you are low on HP or cornered. Recovery can cover part of the 6 HP per second.
- Field Rats (base speed 50) are faster than most early pests and arrive in groups once Harvest Mice split. Keep space around Tibo from about 9:00 on.
- With common shrines and nests and no gold bonus, the forest is better for building up than for farming gold.
Potato Field
- The start area has no hazards and only basic points of interest. Crop Patches here are a safe early source of coins and the occasional heal.
- Leaving the field is the quickest way to raise gold or XP income: every neighbour pays at least as much, and some pay more.
- Reset Zombies are slow (base speed 21) but have 80 base HP. You can usually walk away from them.
